Eco-Internships Secures 34 Internships in 2023!

By investing in the Internship Support Program, youth throughout Canada are receiving the job training and experience they need to succeed in the Environmental Nonprofit Sector

Eco-Internships is excited to announce our success with the Youth Integration into the Environmental Nonprofit Sector program by securing 34 youth internships for the 2023 year. We have been able to match these youth located in six different provinces, with environmental nonprofits all throughout Canada.

Thanks to the RBC Future Launch program, Eco-Internships has successfully executed our youth training program in partnership with the Capacity Building Institute to educate these 34 postgraduate youth in the nonprofit sector, environmental sustainability and skills development in the workplace. As some internship placements come to an end this month, we are proud to announce that after matching youth with environmental nonprofits, they have also gained practical work experience in their field of studies, which will support them in securing future permanent employment in the sector. Lastly, through our online classroom, expert guest speakers and our training in relationship building, youth have successfully expanded and enhanced their professional network throughout the country. Eco-Internships would not have been able to support these youth in their career development journey without the support and generosity of the RBC Foundation.

One youth intern has this to say about participating in the Internship Training Program (ITP):

"The ITP has helped me grow as a professional in the non-profit sector, as a workplace communicator, and as an individual. The ITP's strong emphasis on writing skills and board governance has directly translated into my internship placement and while easing my transition into the energy management field. I am happy that StepUp's core mission has aligned so well with my personal values as well as my professional aspirations."

Eco-Internships was founded in 2021, but has operated as a project through Sustainable Eastern Ontario since 2017. We have since expanded the program nationally and work closely with Canadian environmental nonprofits to address barriers linked to limited capacity.

Our unique approach helps augment operations throughout the sector by facilitating wage subsidy grant applications that enable organizations to harness young Canadians’ potential and passion for environmental action. Our program, which now has support from over 70 nonprofits in Canada, has now facilitated over 180 youth internship placements. Eco-Internships helps young people gain the skills and work experience they need to make a successful transition into the green labour market. They have resulted in positive outcomes for identifying and addressing environmental issues in Canada, through preservation and enhancement of our natural environment.
