On the beautiful autumn afternoon of Saturday, October 5th, SmartNet Coalition held its annual Sustainability & EV Showcase at the Just Food community farm. The event gathered a diverse range of exhibitors and presenters, offering Ottawa residents a chance to explore and experience the local sustainability sector firsthand.
Attendees enjoyed engaging with exhibitors, including green businesses focused on renewable energy and technology, non-profits, local farmers, and electric vehicles curated by the Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa (EVCO). Highlights included opportunities to test drive various EVs and to view an e-tractor and an OC Transpo e-bus. Local farm vendors, such as Forêt Capitale, 7 Hues Eco-Farm, and Chi Garden, provided fresh produce and delicious bento boxes.
The event’s presentations covered a wide array of topics, from electric and sustainable home solutions to workshops like “My Sustainable Business Path,” and discussions on investing in renewable energy and vermicomposting. This year’s showcase aimed to foster connections among businesses and organizations, while offering Ottawa’s public the chance to learn about and engage with this important and growing sector.

The new location at Just Food proved to be an ideal community space, supporting our goal of fostering collaboration in the sustainability community. We are grateful to our generous sponsors—CUSW, PG Electrical, Homesol, LightenCo, Co-operators, OREC, EnviroCentre, Sustainable Capacity Solutions, and Sustainable Eastern Ontario—who made this event possible. A special thanks to our exhibitors and presenters for their participation, Consciously Curated Home and Box of Life for their raffle prize donations, our volunteers for their hard work, and our attendees for their enthusiastic support.
We look forward to continuing the Sustainability & EV Showcase in the years to come and encourage others to join us in growing the sustainability sector.
